The UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools has released a new policy brief on “Prioritizing Educator Diversity with New State & Federal Funding,” in order to establish more inclusive and equitable learning environments. Based on research by Kai Mathews, Ph.D.; Mary-Louise Leger, M.S. Ed.; Earl J. Edwards; Christopher Mauerman; and Felicia Graham, M.A., the brief discusses the need for a more diverse and sustainable K-12 workforce and highlights opportunities for recruiting, preparing, and retaining more educators of color in California, including increased support for teacher residencies, fee waivers, teacher grants, and early childhood education funding, that are possible with COVID-19 relief funding from the American Rescue Plan.
The policy brief was created with support from the William + Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
