Educational Leadership Program (Ed.D)

Yadira Arellano is a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. She also serves as a faculty member in Child and Family Education at Antelope Valley College, where she teaches courses in child development and teacher preparation.

In her professional role, Miss Arellano leads and contributes to grant-funded initiatives designed to strengthen teacher development pipelines, enhance mentoring structures, and promote student success across community college systems. Her work includes the design and implementation of comprehensive education and teaching pathways that provide clear and accessible routes into the teaching profession. In addition, she supports the expansion of dual enrollment programs, enabling high school students to begin coursework aligned with careers in education at an early stage. At the regional level, she plays a leadership role in coordinating teacher preparation efforts, working collaboratively with colleges and community partners to align programs and improve coherence across institutions.

Miss Arellano’s work is guided by a strong commitment to expanding educational access and improving outcomes for students from historically underserved communities. She engages closely with students as they navigate higher education and pursue careers in teaching, emphasizing the creation of inclusive, supportive, and equitable learning environments that foster persistence and achievement.

Her research focuses on the experiences of Mexican women in higher education, with particular attention to the intersections of family dynamics, identity formation, and the impact of father absence on educational and professional trajectories. Through this work, she highlights the ways in which women draw upon cultural and ancestral knowledge as sources of strength, enabling them to navigate institutional systems and achieve academic and professional success.
