She has her MEd and Social Science Teaching Credential from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Lauren has been in education for the past 14 years, having experience with all grade levels (K–graduate school). She spent most of her time teaching high school Ethnic Studies in the San Francisco Unified School District. Her research focuses on how Ethnic Studies Teachers of Color experience, conceptualize, and navigate grief alongside the youth they serve. Lauren’s work aims to recognize how Ethnic Studies offers an imperative lens to look at grief, as it builds critical consciousness and is rooted in collective healing.
