Webinar on Opening Schools Safely Amid COVID-19 Pandemic Highlights UCLA Expertise

The UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies will present a webinar series on “Opening Schools Safely in Light of COVID-19: UCLA Experts in Conversation,”  beginning Wednesday, August 5 at 5 p.m. During the webinar, representatives from the UCLA Department of Education, UCLA Health and news media will share their expertise and explore this critical issue. 

Panelists for the event include Georgia Lazo, principal, UCLA Lab School; Tyrone Howard, UCLA professor of education and director of the UCLA Pritzker Center  for Strengthening Children and Families; and Dr. Nava Yeganeh, specialist in pediatrics and infectious disease, UCLA Health. The discussion will be moderated by Howard Blume, education reporter for the Los Angeles Times.

Topics to be discussed include the science behind health and safety in schools; the challenges to reopening schools safely; and best practices for safeguarding health while promoting learning. Future UCLA GSEIS webinar events will focus on health, safety and learning challenges facing  different school populations.
