Social Sciences and Comparative Education: Newsletter Examines Pandemic, Forges Solidarity

The Spring 2021 issue of the Social Sciences and Comparative Education Newsletter showcases perspectives from students, faculty and alumni of the division.

The issue includes contributions by Andrea Gambino, 3rd year candidate and editor-in-chief; Brooke Bách-Tãng Phan, 4th year doctoral student; Alejandra Magaña Gamero, 2nd year doctoral student; and Marisol Sánchez Castillo, 2nd year doctoral student. Professors Edith Mukudi Omwami, Daniel Solórzano, and Carlos Alberto Torres offer their reflections on COVID-19 and its impact on higher education, and a message from Amy Gershon, Ph.D., director of the Office of Student Services and Harmeet Singh, graduate advisor and credential counselor, share resources for students navigating graduate school in the pandemic. 

In addition, Jason Nunzio Dorio, Ph.D., lecturer, shares his message for the SSCE Class of ’21, and Hughlin Rodcliff Boyd, III, M.S. PPM, J.D., ABD, offers a student reflection. SSCE alumni Melissa Rae Goodnight, Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Robin Shields, Ph.D., also contributed their perspectives to the newsletter.
