“Virtual Belonging: Assessing the Affective Impact of Digital Records Creation in Community Archives” is a four-year participatory action research project led by two community archives, Texas After Violence Project (TAVP) and South Asian American Digital Archives (SAADA), in collaboration with researchers from the UCLA Community Archives Lab. This presentation will address how academic researchers can engage in equitable, mutually beneficial relationships with independent community archives. It will also report some of the project’s findings on the impact of online peer-to-peer oral history projects and the implications of these findings for archival practice.
