Nicole M. Else-Quest

Professor

As a first-generation college student, I earned my Ph.D. in developmental psychology at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. I am a feminist developmental psychologist whose interdisciplinary and collaborative research is dedicated to applying the core feminist theory of intersectionality across the sciences to understand gendered patterns of development among diverse groups. My current projects are invested in expanding participation in STEM, in partnership with educators from elementary mathematics classrooms through undergraduate chemistry and doctoral engineering programs, to improve outcomes for students from diverse historically-excluded groups (including women, students of color, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities). I am also interested in developing the methodological repertoire within feminist research. I am currently Principal Investigator on two collaborative grants from the National Science Foundation. I am a Fellow of the American Psychological Association through Division 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) and member of Divisions 15 (Educational Psychology), 9 (Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues) and 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues). In addition to my scholarly work, I am co-author of the undergraduate textbook, The Psychology of Women and Gender: Half the Human Experience+, with Janet Shibley Hyde (SAGE, 2022).
