Arjun Krishna

As a PhD Candidate and learning scientist, I use micro-ethnographic video methods to understand how the natural world organizes the spatial and temporal dimensions of learning and human development. Broadly, I examine how communities learn by participating in shared activities while ‘on the move’ through changing seasons.

My research program spans multiple timescales of human development, from the moment-to-moment to the season-to-season. By approaching seasons as distinct yet profoundly connected sites for learning, I explore how the environment shapes human activity, attention, and mobility.

My work is grounded in the wider socio-political contexts of learning. Partnering with Indigenous communities and environmental education organizations in the forests of South Asia, I use video to make visible ongoing issues of environmental justice, while highlighting learning processes that center relations between people and land.

Honoring the interdisciplinary nature of my research, I actively participate in and contribute to a wide range of scholarly communities including the learning sciences, human development, conservation biology, and comparative education.
