The UCLA School of Education and Information Studies and the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health will present, “Risk Communication in Schools During COVID-19,” a free, interactive, three-hour training for principals and school administrators.

The training content was created by public health risk communication experts Deborah Glik, Sc.D., and Cathy Lang, Ph.D., UCLA Fielding School of Public Health; the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies, and the UC San Francisco Center for Excellence in Primary Care. Additional support has been provided by the California Department of Public Health and California Connected.

“We realize how busy and stressed school administrators are, managing school re-openings and all the crises they encounter on a daily basis,” writes Lang of her and Glik’s training content. “We all know that school administrators have communication expertise. This training gives school administrators additional skills and confidence to effectively create risk communication messages that reinforce positive attitudes and practices so that everyone can return to their schools safely.”

Topics discussed will guide school administrators and principals in how to effectively use risk communication best practices to enhance COVID-19 prevention, screening, testing, and case management, as well as to decrease community transmission in schools.

Three training options are available from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following Fridays: April 16 and 30; and May 7.

Information will be forthcoming on a series of webinars focused on the safe reopening of schools during the pandemic will be hosted by the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies and the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health.
