A very special UCLA Connections event will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 9:00 a.m., PST (12:00 p.m., EST) featuring Nobel Prize winners Andrea Ghez, the Lauren B. Leichtman and Arthur E. Levine Professor of Astrophysics at UCLA, and Jennifer Doudna, Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology at UC Berkeley, in conversation with UCLA Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Emily A. Carter.
This Fall, Professor Ghez won a Nobel Prize in Physics for her discovery of a supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy. The next day, Professor Doudna won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of CRISPR-Cas9, a powerful genome editing breakthrough that allows scientists to rewrite DNA in any organism, including human cells.
UCLA Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Carter, a distinguished scientist and member of the National Academy of Sciences, will lead a discussion with the Nobel laureates on the science behind their discoveries, their current research, how they achieved world-class research results and the significance of their Nobel Prizes for women and youth who have a passion for science.
The UCLA Ed & IS community is invited to tune in for this very important conversation, Wednesday, December 16, 9:00 a.m. PST | Noon EST. Closed captioning will be available in English and Spanish.
