Monique Leahey Sugimoto
Lecturer
Monique Sugimoto is the archivist and local history librarian with the Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD), a position she has held since 2012. Monique manages PVLD’s Local History Center facilitating the preservation of the Peninsula’s history by collecting materials of historic value on all aspects of Peninsula history including ranching and agricultural period, early land development, city formations and its social and cultural history. She also maintains the Center’s Community Archives.
Prior to joining PVLD, Monique was an archivist with the National Archives and Records Administration Riverside field office in Perris, California and the UCLA University Archives.
Monique earned her MLIS from UCLA in 2006. As a graduate student researcher, she worked on the InterPARES I project developing the Metadata and Archival Description Registry and Analysis System (MADRAS) and synthesizing the InterPARES I Baseline and Benchmark Requirements with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for recordkeeping.
Monique has been adjunct faculty with the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies since 2019 where she has taught Records and Information Resource Management (IS233) and Advanced Issues in Archival Science: Archival Description and Access Systems (IS438B).
