How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture
The UCLA School of Education and Information Studies (SEIS) invites you to a book talk featuring Dr. Lisa M. Stulberg, author of How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture (University of Chicago Press, October 2026).
In this conversation, Dr. Stulberg explores how culture workers in Hollywood, elite sports, theater, and activism are transforming American society through their contributions to arts, sports, and politics—and why pop culture provides a crucial beacon of hope during challenging political times.
Drawing on 14 years of research and 170 interviews with TV, film, and theater actors and creators, musicians, athletes, and activists, How to Win a Culture War argues that pop culture is not merely entertainment, but a primary arena where social change is forged and political progress is sustained.
