Higher Education & Organizational Change (M.A. & Ph.D.)
In the Higher Education & Organizational Change (HEOC) graduate division, students gain an understanding of the historical, political, social, and philosophical elements that have shaped and continue to affect higher education. The programs are designed for students whose primary career interest is in research and teaching in institutions of higher education; higher education administration working in student affairs, academic affairs, or college leadership; or working in a research or policy institute. The HEOC division offers three degree programs: the M.A. and Ph.D. (research-focused programs) and the Ed.M. in Student Affairs, a one-year cohort-based Ed.M. program designed to provide early-career professionals with knowledge, skills, and a social justice perspective in the areas of student development theory, foundations of higher education, student affairs administration, research, and assessment.

In the Human Development and Psychology (HDP) graduate division, students explore the situations and processes that promote learning and development in a variety of social contexts for individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. The program is designed for students interested in human learning and development to improve educational practices.
Human Development & Psychology DivisionSocial Research Methodology (M.A. & Ph.D.)
In the Social Research Methodology (SRM) graduate division, students design and conduct research and evaluation, develop and apply new techniques, analyze and interpret data in the context of theory and practice, and critically examine research-based claims. The programs are designed for students who are primarily interested in methodology as an area of research and have particular interests in specific educational areas or issues. The SRM division offers two degree programs: the M.A. and the Ph.D. SRM also offers a certificate program in Advanced Quantitative Methodology in Educational Research which is open to all UCLA graduate students.
Social Research Methodology DivisionSocial Sciences & Comparative Education (M.A. & Ph.D.)
In the Social Sciences and Comparative Education graduate division, students explore issues of social, cultural, historical, philosophical, and comparative/international contexts of education. The Division is multidisciplinary and brings various methodologies and vocabularies to the study of education.
Social Sciences and Comparative Education Division (SSCE)Urban Schooling (Ph.D. only)
In the Urban Schooling graduate division, students engage in a course of study that allows them to explore the full range of phenomena that impact education in urban settings. The program is designed for students whose primary career interests are in the study and practice of urban school reform. The Urban Schooling division offers a Ph.D. program. The program seeks to examine the consequences of current urban schooling practices and policies as well as to develop alternatives to the present system that result in systemic change.
