The dual-language immersion program at UCLA Lab School has been highlighted by USA Today in its “Hecho en USA” column, which was recently focused on bilingual education.
UCLA Lab School, a private school for students aged 4-12 on the UCLA campus, was featured in the column as a school whose dual-language instruction empowers students and helps them excel academically, socially, and emotionally. Elena Perez, who teaches preschool-age students at UCLA Lab School, was quoted in the article.
“People talk about closing the achievement gap, but it’s more closing the opportunity gap,” Perez told USA Today. “It’s important that we come back to the original purpose of dual language, which is to serve the marginalized population.”
