UCLA Community School Celebrates 90 Percent Increase in College-Bound From Pico-Union-Koreatown

Before UCLA partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District to open UCLA Community School in 2009, only a third of high school graduates in its Koreatown neighborhood went on to college.

In June 2015, more than 90 percent of UCLA Community School seniors were college bound – a remarkable turnaround in an area of largely poor and immigrant families with relatively few members holding a college degree.

Eight UCLA Community school graduates are now enrolled as UCLA students in Westwood.

In this video produced by UCLA Community School students – with support from the UCLA Broadcast Studio – two UCLA freshmen talk about how the school in Koreatown helped to prepare them for college.
