Charlene Gabriela Jovel Duque (She/Her/Ella)

Educational Leadership Program (Ed.D)

Charlene Jovel is committed to supporting teachers and students to develop elementary math classrooms full of joy and community. She believes that all students regardless of backgrounds can achieve high levels of math learning with the appropriate supports.

With 16 years of teaching experience, Charlene has served as 3rd-6th classroom teacher as well as instructional coach. In addition, she has presented at different educational conferences emphasizing in building math identity and belonging.

Born in El Salvador, she immigrated to California’s Central Valley at 14 and developed a passion for advocacy in multilingual education.

Currently her research focuses on Latina teachers and how culture and language is used in the math class to engage learners from diverse backgrounds.
