Humanizing Teaching and Learning in the Era of AI

March 28 @ 8:30 am 12:30 pm

AI tools are already shaping how students write, research, and complete assignments. Many teachers are being asked to respond without clear guidance, training, or shared norms.

On Saturday, March 28, UCLA Center X is hosting Humanizing Teaching and Learning in the Era of AI, an in-person conference at Moore Hall.

We are moving beyond the hype to focus on deeply human, equity-centered teaching. The morning features a keynote by Professor Ramesh Srinivasan, Director of the UC Digital Cultures Lab, who will demystify AI’s impact on our environment, labor, and society.

What will you experience?

We are excited to feature sessions that provide concrete, human-centered tools:

  • Critical Media Literacy & AI: Explore how to help students navigate the ethics of digital spaces and develop a critical consciousness toward the media they consume and create.
  • Equity through Untraditional Formats: Learn how to use unique resources like the graphic novel Power On! and the “Plugging into Power” parent guide to translate complex AI research into accessible, classroom-ready stories for students and advocacy tools for families.

Who should attend?

This conference is designed for those seeking a thoughtful approach that centers human relationships:

  • K–20 Teachers looking for discipline-specific strategies.
  • Instructional Coaches & TOSAs looking for resources to share with their districts.
  • School Leaders & Families interested in ethical advocacy and guidance.
