Learning Café: A Community-Engaged Scholarship Series with Karen Hunter Quartz, Ph.D.

March 5 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Join us for our monthly Learning Café series highlighting the community engaged work of our faculty and graduate students. Listen, learn and engage with the work of our school.

Featuring Karen Hunter Quartz, Ph.D., Director, UCLA Center for Community Schooling

In this Learning Café, I share my experience designing and supporting the UCLA Community Schools as sites of public scholarship. Grounded in the history and context of the two schools, I describe the values, structures, and practices that make public scholarship possible. A deep commitment to democracy, justice and education guides collective inquiry in a variety of spaces including school-based research committees, summer R&D projects, internships, learning exchanges, and partnership retreats. I highlight the value of public scholarship at the schools by sharing three long standing research-practice partnerships focused on sanctuary schooling, college access and success, and student agency.
