A Message to the UCLA Education and Information Studies Community

This week, as we share with you via Ampersand the depth and breadth of work that is happening remotely across the Graduate School during these very challenging times, I want to simply make this a message of gratitude.

The spirit of giving that has animated so many in our community is deeply inspiring. During this crisis time in history, those who are able to give have been so generous. Last week our Graduate School, as part of Giving Tuesday, launched a UCLA Spark Campaign (the official crowdfunding platform for UCLA initiatives) to raise funds for three timely and critical areas:  the Information Studies Student Emergency Fund, the Education Student Emergency Fund, and the Friends of Mann UCLA Community School Fund to support families in great need at our partner K-12 school.

This UCLA Ed & IS Spark Campaign had a goal of 100 donors by June 1 – we reached that in only a week. We deeply thank everyone who has given and we invite others who might be in the position to make a gift during this COVID moment to give to that Campaign HERE

Our UCLA Ed & IS community has faced this crisis with a such a strong attitude of optimism and hope. I am so honored to be a part of this community and I thank each of you for all that you are doing.

Wishing you and yours a safe and healthy week,

Marcelo M. Suárez-Orozco
