SUMMARY:The Power of Connection in Adolescence: Reimagining Schools and Communities for Connected Learning
DESCRIPTION:Adolescence is an important developmental period for connected learning. Inclusive environments\, expanded opportunities\, and meaningful relationships can help diverse learners build connections (within neural and social bonds) as they learn\, belong\, and grow. The 2026 UC|CSU Collaborative Summit brings together educators\, faculty\, administrators\, and researchers in child development to explore how schools and communities can strengthen the social and relational skills that support learning\, well-being\, and future success for adolescents with individual learning differences. \n\n\n\nThe Summit is focused on two tracks: one on “From School to Community: Redesigning Inclusive 6-16 Learning Environments.” and one on “From Access to Agency: Building Digital Equity and Well-Being for Diverse Learners.” Each session features a moderated discussion with developmental scientists and practitioners in education or behavioral/mental health to connect research evidence with real-world practice. Ultimately\, the Summit aims to strengthen the capacity of grade 6-12 and higher education educators\, health professionals\, and system leaders to support the whole adolescent and expand opportunity for all adolescent learners. \n\n\n\n\n Register Now!

SUMMARY:Book Talk with Dr. Lisa M. Stulberg
DESCRIPTION:How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture \n\n\n\nThe UCLA School of Education and Information Studies (SEIS) invites you to a book talk featuring Dr. Lisa M. Stulberg\, author of How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture (University of Chicago Press\, October 2026). \n\n\n\nIn this conversation\, Dr. Stulberg explores how culture workers in Hollywood\, elite sports\, theater\, and activism are transforming American society through their contributions to arts\, sports\, and politics—and why pop culture provides a crucial beacon of hope during challenging political times. \n\n\n\nDrawing on 14 years of research and 170 interviews with TV\, film\, and theater actors and creators\, musicians\, athletes\, and activists\, How to Win a Culture War argues that pop culture is not merely entertainment\, but a primary arena where social change is forged and political progress is sustained. \n\n\n\nAbout the Author: \n\n\n\nLisa M. Stulberg\, PhD\, is Associate Professor of Sociology of Education and Director of the Sociology of Education Program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture\, Education\, and Human Development. Her research focuses on the sociology of education\, LGBTQ+ social change\, and cultural politics. \n\n\n\nLight refreshments will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n Register
