SUMMARY:State of Crisis 2026: Linking New Research to Funding for California Students Experiencing Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:Nearly 300\,000 California K–12 students experienced homelessness in the 2024–25 school year\, the highest level on record. A new report from the UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools — State of Crisis 2026: A Deepening Crisis of Students Experiencing Homelessness Across California — examines persistent geographic and racial disparities in student homelessness and gaps in attendance\, academic achievement\, graduation\, and college-going outcomes. \n\n\n\nJoin UCLA CTS and the National Center for Youth Law for a webinar exploring key findings from the report and California’s historic $116 million investment in supporting students experiencing homelessness. Speakers will discuss strategies for strengthening student supports\, improving cross-system coordination\, and building sustainable infrastructure\, alongside a proposed study examining how districts implement the funding and its impact on student experiences and educational outcomes. \n\n\n\nThis is a virtual event hosted on Zoom. \n\n\n\n\n Register

SUMMARY:Book Talk with Dr. Lisa M. Stulberg "How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a book talk featuring Dr. Lisa M. Stulberg\, author of How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture\, in conversation with The New York Times journalist Trish Bendix. \n\n\n\nIn this conversation\, Dr. Stulberg explores how culture workers in Hollywood\, elite sports\, theater\, and activism are transforming American society through their contributions to arts\, sports\, and politics—and why pop culture provides a crucial beacon of hope during challenging political times. \n\n\n\nDrawing on 14 years of research and 170 interviews with TV\, film\, and theater actors and creators\, musicians\, athletes\, and activists\, How to Win a Culture War argues that pop culture is not merely entertainment\, but a primary arena where social change is forged and political progress is sustained. \n\n\n\nAbout the Author: \n\n\n\nLisa M. Stulberg\, PhD\, is Associate Professor of Sociology of Education and Director of the Sociology of Education Program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture\, Education\, and Human Development. Her research focuses on the sociology of education\, LGBTQ+ social change\, and cultural politics. \n\n\n\nThis event is co-sponsored by the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies\, the UCLA Department of Sociology and the UCLA Transformative Coaching and Leadership program. \n\n\n\nLight refreshments will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n Register
